Expedited SVN: Associate Data Engineer (P)

Overview

Position: Associate Data Engineer. The role supports analysis of disaggregated migration data, develops data integration platforms, and collaborates with DTM Global and field teams to deliver data‑driven insights for policy and program design.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing data integration, visualization, and analysis using statistical software; collaborate with DTM Global and field teams to obtain datasets for use by at least three African countries.

• Contribute to collection, sharing, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative migration data from DTM, censuses, household surveys, and administrative sources.

• Support implementation of a data coherence and accessibility framework, ensuring standardized and interoperable datasets for IOM‑wide analytics; build capacity across Regional Offices.

• Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., EGRISS, DSID, UN agencies) to mainstream disaggregated sex and age data into gender‑responsive government plans and programmes.

• Prepare project reports for donors and organize launch events for DTM publications, as required.

• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Management, Information Systems, Information Science, or a related field with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Qualifications: Experience

• Advanced experience in Python for data engineering tasks (ETL pipelines, data transformation, automation) mandatory.

• Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services (Azure Data Factory, Azure Blob Storage, Azure SQL Database) mandatory.

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric or equivalent cloud Data Lakehouse platforms and familiarity with medallion architecture mandatory.

• Experience designing data integration and pipeline architectures, sourcing from APIs, message queues, or databases mandatory.

• Experience with SQL and relational databases such as MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server; cloud database migration advantage.

• Experience with self‑service analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau) for data discovery mandatory.

• Desirable: Experience delivering big‑data use cases (Spark, Azure Synapse Analytics) and REST‑API development and management.

Qualifications: Skills

• Strong knowledge of data engineering and integration systems.

• Background in data management, integration, modeling, and optimization.

• Proficiency within Microsoft data ecosystem (Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI) and medallion architecture.

Qualifications: Languages

• Fluency in English (oral and written) mandatory.

• Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage; proficiency is evaluated during selection.
