Junior Professorship (W1) of Mathematics of Machine Learning

Junior Professorship (W1) of Mathematics of Machine Learning

commencing as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

• Research and teaching on the mathematical foundations of machine learning.

• Acquisition of third-party funds and participation in collaborative research initiatives.

Applicants should have profound expertise in one or several of the following sub-areas:

• theory of deep learning

• optimization in machine learning and data science

• signal and image processing

• high-dimensional probability theory in connection to machine learning and data science

• machine learning for inverse problems

• applied harmonic analysis

Qualifications

• a university degree

• teaching skills at university level

• an aptitude for an academic career, usually evidenced by the excellent quality of a doctoral degree

• no more than four years have passed between the doctorate and the end of the application period (this period is extended by up to two years per child or nursing case if the applicant is caring or has cared for one or more children under the age of 18 or one or more relatives in need of care)

Position Details

The position is a fixed-term professorship for the duration of three years. Pending a positive evaluation, it may be extended by another period of three years. A conversion to an indefinite position (tenure track) is not possible.
