Machine Learning Engineer (m/f/d)
Location: Jena • Status: Full-time • Field: Software Engineering
Profile
You’re a passionate Machine Learning Engineer ready to bring autonomy to life — whether in the air, on the road, or underwater. You have experience developing cutting‑edge ML solutions such as object detection, semantic segmentation, SLAM, or reinforcement learning, and you’re comfortable working with multimodal sensor data (camera, lidar, radar). You’re fluent in Python or C++, familiar with ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow, and enjoy collaborating across disciplines to turn algorithms into real‑world applications. A solid background in computer vision, robotics, or motion planning is a big plus.
Your Role
- Design and implement machine learning solutions for autonomous systems, including tasks like object detection, semantic segmentation, behavioral cloning, or reinforcement learning.
- Develop algorithms for modules such as sensor fusion, perception, SLAM, environmental analysis, motion prediction, or mission and motion planning.
- Work with multimodal sensors: Cameras, Lidar, Radar, etc.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams and customers to identify opportunities and requirements.
- Directly apply machine learning models to real‑world products that will fly, drive, or swim autonomously.
At a minimum we’d like you to have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 2 years of work or educational experience in machine learning or AI.
- 1 year of relevant work experience, including software development.
- Experience with one or more programming languages, including C/C++ or Python.
- Experience using machine learning libraries or platforms, e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, Caffe, Theano, Scikit‑Learn or an ML library for production.
- Domain knowledge in machine learning and/or computer vision.
- Experience with software continuous integration.
It’s preferred if you have
- MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or a related technical field.
- Experience with computer vision, applied robotics, classification, pattern recognition, or reinforcement learning.
- Experience with fundamental robotic tasks such as sensor fusion, perception, SLAM, environmental modeling, motion prediction, behavioral cloning, or mission & motion planning.
Benefits
- Corporate benefits: team members enjoy exclusive brand deals and appealing non‑cash benefits.
- Work‑life balance: flexible working hours and mobile working options.
- Vacation: 30 days per year.
- Ergonomic workstations: height‑adjustable desks and ergonomic office chairs.
- Company events: regular team events, meet‑ups, and an annual Christmas party.
- Training opportunities: participation in conferences, trade fairs, and international conferences.
- Free drinks: complimentary coffee, tea, and water.
- Travel expenses: allowances for additional meal expenses during business trips.
