The German Primate Center (DPZ) - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research in Göttingen conducts basic research in primate biology, molecular biomedicine and neuroscience. It maintains four field stations and is a competence and reference center for research on and with primates. The DPZ is one of the 96 research and infrastructure facilities of the Leibniz Association.
The Primate Data Science (PRIDAS) platform at the German Primate Center (DPZ) invites applications for a position as
Research Data Scientist (m/f/d)
We offer a 2-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of a permanent appointment, remunerated at 100% E13 TV‑L (Tarifvertrag der Länder).
Our research with primates at the DPZ involves varied, often multimodal sets of data, including behavioral, physiological, neuronal, genetic, and various imaging modalities. These data sets allow DPZ researchers to pursue categorically novel questions and scientific approaches.
The central task of PRIDAS is to contribute expert data science input to scientific studies at the DPZ. This includes providing and developing methods for data processing, analysis, and management.
The core aspects of the role involve translating research needs into data science terminology, pursuing relevant data science projects from conception to publication, developing novel data science methods and platforms in support of the DPZ's mission, as well as working closely with the PRIDAS team and supporting it in day‑to‑day operations.
Candidates ideally fulfill the following requirements
- Minimum of a Ph.D. (or exceptional M.S. plus 4 years' experience) in computer science, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, mathematics, physics, or similar field
- Strong programming skills in Python or another high‑level scientific language (e.g. R, Julia, MATLAB), and experience with scientific computing
- Experience with analysing complex or multi‑modal data sets
- Ability to abstract specific research needs into data science terms
- Interest in the DPZ's domain‑specific research questions, and motivation to engage with the scientific content of projects
- Very good English skills (written and spoken)
Experience in (Bayesian) statistical analysis or applied machine learning is a plus.
We provide the opportunity to be directly involved in multiple research projects. You'll expand your skills in an attractive scientific environment with modern IT infrastructure, enjoy flexible and family‑friendly working hours, as well as sustainable mobility benefits.
We adhere to the Leibniz diversity standards and welcome applications from all qualified persons, regardless of their ethnic, cultural, or social background, their gender, religion, ideology, disability, age, or sexual identity. Applicants with disabilities, equal aptitude, and qualifications will be given preferential consideration if the disability is indicated in the application.
The position is full‑time and to be filled as soon as possible. For informal inquiries, please contact Christian Weber at cweber(at)dpz.eu .
Please send your written application under the keyword "PRIDAS research data scientist" with a CV, motivation letter, and contact details of two to three references via E‑Mail to bewerbung(at)dpz.eu .
Applications arriving until August 1 st 2026 are considered for this position.
