Senior AI Engineer (AI): Architecting and operationalizing multimodal AI systems for real-world learning environments with an accent on processing noisy audio, interpreting visual signals, and delivering low-latency AI support.

Focus on designing, deploying, and optimizing voice and vision AI systems at production scale and owning the full ML lifecycle.

Location: Remote: Must be based in North America (United States or Canada) Salary: $160,000 - $190,000 USD or $145,000 - $173,000 CAD Company Paper is an edtech company reimagining how schools support students with AI-powered instructional tools and 24/7 academic support.

Evaluate and implement LLM-based approaches (fine-tuning, RAG, prompt-based) and multimodal architectures. Own the end-to-end ML lifecycle from data ingestion to deployment, monitoring, and iteration. Optimize infrastructure for GPU utilization, latency, and cost efficiency.

Collaborate with Product and Engineering to translate classroom needs into production-ready AI systems. Contribute to the long-term AI roadmap and architecture decisions. Requirements 5+ years building and deploying production AI/ML systems . Hands-on experience operationalizing LLM-based systems (RAG, agents, prompt workflows, fine-tuning).

Experience with multimodal or vision systems. Demonstrated ownership of AI systems in production. Strong Python proficiency and experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow. Experience with distributed/cloud infrastructure for ML workloads. Must be based in North America (United States or Canada) .

Nice to have Experience building real-time or low-latency ML systems. Experience working with educational data or regulated environments (FERPA/COPPA). Experience designing evaluation frameworks for generative systems. Background in optimizing ML systems for cost at scale. Collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on equity in education.
